rural life christmas

I've some how packed everything and am now waiting for Chuck to come home with my car so we can load it and go- but in the mean time I was looking at old pics and found these from December at the Rural Life museum's Christmas thing they do- we like it for a lot of reasons, the least of which not being the homemade cracklin they make. I didn't know it, but cracklin take 2 HOURS to fry in an iron pot over open flame- and they made them in these tiny batches that were bought up immediately. We sent Grandad over to stand there and alert us as soon as they were ready, but it never happened- he didn't have 2 hours in him. A nice lady gave us one of hers and it was really good-

this was the pot of cracklin...the old guy stood there and stirred and stirred...

the kids poked the water with sticks- they had more fun doing that than anything else.

we also went on a hayride with Mimi- Max wasn't so sure about all of it though....I think he gets the feeling I'm to steal him every time I'm nearby- it's tempting!
