Last night was "Hot Art Cool Nights" in Baton Rouge which is the mid city merchants version of an Art Hop. We had an open house at our new studio and had a great time. I'm uploading the pictures to flickr right now so they should be up soon over to the right-
The new studio is a much better space to show and paint in although one of our 2 air conditioners was broken so we were all dying of heat all night. Our landlord is quite accommodating though and brought in some fans to cool everyone off. It helped a little, but it's really not a good South Louisiana party if nobodyis sweating anyway.
Lots of people came and went, there was an awesome band- the two guys who live next to the dumpster in our parking lot even came down and hung out for a while- they've been there for about 4 years and one of them kept trying to lure me away from Chuck. He said he'd line my cardboard box with carpet and I would be the "duchess (not queen)" of the homeless scene. Since my mom also has a strong weirdo magnet, he was on a first name basis with her pretty quickly and would yell "ELAINE!" every time she went outside. I wish I was making this stuff up.
They were nice though and I feel a little more comfortable knowing they know us because every time we go to throw something away in the dumpster they are in the fenced enclosure napping on palettes. Quite sobering.
